Do you love Lego? I have a child who is absolutely over the moon for them and one who is following closely behind this passion. Lego’s are the ultimate mind stimulation in so many ways for children. We often forget that what interests us and what we love often builds our brains into a stronger functioning structure. Lego’s combine mathematical skills, deductive reasoning, creativity, artistic design and let us build whatever we can imagine and even what we didn’t know we could imagine. My oldest can tell you every lego piece he has, every set ever owned by our family and turn what looks like piles of bricks to some into intensely intricate masterpieces. I call my eldest my genius lego DaVinci. Where there is a thought process there always becomes something masterful from it via the lego.

I admit I am very much a painting, photography, floral design, interior decorating, clothing and architecture. When I was younger Lego’s weren’t my forte. They were very much something I enjoyed but until I was blessed to meet my oldest child I had no idea the wonder that could have been created from them had my family bought them for me.

The designs of current in our home revolve around Lego cities and lego worlds being built as well as pretend super human universes as is my youngest child’s passion. Lego has given my children a means to bond and create that gives them endless possibilities for interaction and lets them calm their own minds and express themselves throughout their day.

Recently we were blessed with the opening of a wonderful store named “Bricks and Minifigs” here in our little part of the world. I was not sure what to expect as we had been to Lego Land and to several Lego stores in malls across the United States. We initially planned on going to the grand opening and rearranged our schedules to do so. When we arrived however the place was absolutely packed with a line wrapped around the building and a food truck that looked like it was making a killing! I am guessing Herbs Burgers went home a happy set of campers that day with aching feet that they didn’t mind nursing once they counted their bounty! Yay! Go Herbs! Super happy to see a foodie adventure get gains!

Looking at the line I knew we only had one and a half hours to spend before I needed to leave for a meeting that I could not reschedule. We were drove down the street several blocks and still could not find parking. I looked at my cubs and we began to talk, we all decided that it would be best to get something to eat and head back instead to return another day. So we headed to a park with a food truck we had been wanting to try (that’s another blog post) and enjoyed our day before my meeting.

Two days later we returned and found that the store was not overwhelmed with people, the customer flow was good but a manageable pace. The staff told me we would have been at least an hour getting from the back of the line to the stores door that day and we had made a wise decision. The store was delightful! The mini figure selection was incredible and so much fun! My cubs (your going to see me say that a lot when I reference my children) found treasures to take home including candy bars, cereals and coffees for their Lego world businesses to sell called “Terds, Stickers, Play Days, Yucky Charms, Frosted Plates” and more! The names made us laugh and we found the staff to be some of the best spirited and fun people to talk too! We were even blessed to meet the owner. Her story was one I had not expected, one that filled my heart with joy, warmth and thankfulness for the good people in this world.

The owner is an ER doctor. A woman who has spent years seeing it all. The hurt, the pain, the loss, the sickness, all that comes to the ER. To be good at it it is not a job for the faint of heart but a job for those who have the heart of an angel and the strength of the universe. She had come to a point in her life where she wanted to create a positive change in our little city outside her incredibly important job, she wanted to give back in a way that would create and inspire joy in a world and place that needed it most. She knew the joy Lego brought to people old and young and that there was no Lego store for many miles as our small city is still just a baby compared to other areas. She decided she’d invest in and open Bricks and Minifigs, a way for her to decompress, to inspire joy, to fill her cup so that she can care for others while also filling the cups of those she would not see in the ER. Her reach of joy and brightness has already infiltrated the hearts and minds of our city as she’s been incredibly busy every day since opening. Our area is thankful for you Dr. Candice and we can’t wait to see your business grow and the lives you’ll make better by being here!

My advice is to go support this amazing business! You’ll be happy you did and the smiles you; share will have a ripple effect further than you can imagine. You can build your own mini figure, lego build, find retired sets, sell your old sets and find pieces you may be missing! But the best thing you’ll do is be a part of such a positive change in the world.
